Hunt supporters say deer destroy plants, cause traffic accidents and spread tick-borne-disease. Without natural predators, there is no check on the population.
Opponents say the deer were here first, gardeners should use plant repellants or deer fences, and people should drive more slowly.
"It became pretty clear the hunters were not all that enthusiastic since they were not able to keep the venison," he said Friday.
